No.1 on the route map
The West Coast 200 journey begins in the village of Killin, at the western tip of Loch Tay in Sterling. This quaint and idyllic village has a long and interesting history. Killin was home to the MacNab clan, with Kinnell House as their seat. To this day, you can still see their ancient burial site located in Inchbuie in the River Dochart. Furthermore, from Kinnell House, we can see the prehistoric Killin Stone Circle, full of magic and mystery.
However, the village of Killin is perhaps best known for the spectacular natural beauty of the Falls of Dochart.
The Falls of Dochart, where the waters of the Lochay and Dochart rivers merge, are a spectacular natural wonder. This series of cascades, set against a dramatic mountain backdrop, offers a breathtaking spectacle that draws nature lovers and photographers alike.
Thanks to the Falls of Dochart and the surrounding countryside, Killin is a great base for walking, water sports and fishing. A great walk to get to know Killin is the Historic Killin route which is just over 2.5km long and takes you through the village to Finlarig Castle and Moirlanich Longhouse (a traditional longhouse that the National Trust for Scotland maintain.
